Employment Partner – Profitable Boutique City Firm
Job Type: Employment / Pensions
Location: London
Job Level: Partner
Our City law firm client is seeking an additional Employment Partner to join a team which is central to firm’s client offering.
The Employment team has a clear sector focus, aligned with the firm’s own, which has allowed it to concentrate activities around fast-growing businesses both in the UK and overseas (broadly a 50:50 split). Clients range from significant multi-nationals to start-ups and the partners are adept at handling the varying, distinct demands of this broad client base.
The partners would like to talk to established, senior employment lawyers from London firms who are happy undertaking both contentious and non-contentious advice to sophisticated and demanding clients. Experience of dealing with the UK employment matters of international clients would be particularly valuable, as would the project management skills required for big ticket employment issues.
The team are largely stand alone and self-supporting, with only a small amount of corporate support type work. Accordingly, it is essential that any new lateral is comfortable generating their own clients and network, rather than being dependant on larger, transactional departments to feed work. The team will take a pragmatic view on actual “following”, however will want to see previous BD and marketing successes and a good network of potential clients and referrers.
The firm overall has a strong and cohesive sense of identity and everyone has bought in to a clear strategy and direction of travel. Turnover has grown consistently over the last 5 years, but not at the expense of profitability which is impressive and reflective of the focus on premium end work. An impressive retention rate, at both partner and associate level, is indicative of a good employer brand and positive culture.
This is an excellent opportunity, and particularly for those who want to be in an environment where the employment department is considered such an integral and well-supported part of the overall firm.
